Since I was a little girl, I have always dreamed of having a big family. First, I wanted 6 kids, like the Brady Bunch. The thought of having that many children sounded like fun (I was young). By the time I was in High School, that number changed to four. I realized that if I had 6 boys, which would be my luck, they would eat me out of house and home.
Before Adam & I got married, we talked about how many kids we wanted and when I told him I wanted four, he smiled and said ok. It wasn't even a month after we were married, when the topic was brought up again and Adam changed his number to three. I asked him why he agreed to four and he jokingly said it was he had to do for me to marry him. Haha.
For about a year, we have gone back and forth on whether we will have three or four. I finally compromised and said we can have three, but I want the option of the fourth, in case I change my mind.
In April, I started getting Baby Fever. I have heard that it is very common in mom's of 8 & 9 month old babies. At that point, your little baby isn't that little anymore and you start to want more. We had originally discussed trying for our second in December 2009, so I wasn't sure what Adam's reaction would be, if I brought it up in conversation.
One night we laid in bed and I casually slipped it into the conversation. Adam didn't understand why we couldn't wait until December. It wasn't that he wasn't ready, he just hadn't given any thought of starting sooner than we had originally planned. We both decided we wouldn't talk about it again, until our trip to Houston in May, which for me was so hard.
On Mother's Day, Adam called me after church (he was still in California and I was in Houston with my family) and said he had done some thinking. He realized that Mason had so much love to give and he wanted him to have a little brother and sister. He didn't see any reason to wait until December and said we could start trying this summer. Of course I was thrilled and it made for a great Mother's Day.
My cycle in June was a bit off and I didn't know if it would be the same in July, when we decided to start trying. Instead of getting an ovulation kit, I decided to read the signs that my body was giving off in order to know when I would be ovulating. I didn't think I would get pregnant the first time around, just because that would be too easy.
Over the course of last week, I had some heartburn. This might be normal for some, but the only other time in my life that I ever experienced heartburn, was during my pregnancy with Mason. It was the first sign, but I still didn't think it would happen. Then I noticed that if I let myself get too hungry, I would start to feel nauseated. By this point, I knew something was going on.
Last Saturday, Mason woke up at 6:30am and I rushed into his room to get him, so that he didn't wake our house guests. I brought him into our bedroom to play and drink his milk. As the guys were playing, I decided to take a test. As soon as I took the test, I remember telling Adam that I probably shouldn't have waisted a test, considering that it was a day before my expected period. Right after I said that, I looked down and saw two lines. I called Adam into the bathroom to make sure that he saw two lines too. The minute he looked at the test, he kindly smiled and reminded me that I'm fertile myrtle.
We decided to tell our parents and siblings first. I wanted to be creative in sharing the news with everyone else. So I went to BabiesRus and found the shirt Mason is wearing in all of the pictures. It is a challenge these days, to get him to sit still for pictures. I coudln't wait to share the news.
I'm only 4 weeks and 5 days along and haven't been to the doctor yet. I have had several friends recommend Dr. Finberg to me and have made an appointment in August. He doesn't usually see his patients until they are atleast 8 weeks along. So my appointment won't be until August 21st. My due date is March 28th, the same day as my cousins birthday.
Some people have asked, why I didn't wait until I was further along in my pregnancy to share the news. I completely understand where they are coming from and I know the risks of miscarriage. However, Adam & I talked about it a long time ago and we wanted everyone to know in the beginning, because we don't want to live our lives out of fear. If the worse happens, then atleast we have all of our family and friends around us for support. This is a joyous moment in our lives and we couldn't be more excited about Baby #2.
